EDISON — After consulting with my family, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to a sixth term as Middlesex County Clerk this November.
It has been my great privilege and honor to serve our residents over the past quarter-century as the first woman ever elected Middlesex County Clerk. I have had two successful and satisfying careers in both teaching and as the longest serving County Clerk. Over the past twenty-five years, my team has helped our residents in so many extraordinary ways – modernizing our department through electronic filings and land searches by making information available online to the expansion of vote by mail opportunities, and providing passports, notaries and free Veterans cards. I was also privileged to serve the state of New Jersey as President of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey (COANJ).
My proudest accomplishment has been the expansion of voting opportunities for our residents, when Middlesex County became among the first counties in the state to ensure that voters who chose to vote by mail could do so without incurring any additional costs themselves. I leave this office knowing that our actions fostered a greater sense of participation in the democratic process for our residents – one which I know that my successor will build upon in the years to come.
I am grateful to the hundreds of thousands of Middlesex County residents who placed their trust in me. Your support for the last twenty-five years has been the honor of my life.
